Fue publicado como cuarto sencillo oficial del álbum el 26 de octubre de 2010, y el video musical del mismo se estrenó el día 28 en su canal de Vevo en YouTube.

La canción fue escrita por Katy Perry, Stargate, Sandy Vee y Ester Dean; y producida por Stargate y Sandy Vee. De acuerdo a Katy Perry, "Firework" está influenciado por la novela beat En el camino de Jack Kerouac.

También es conocida por ser el primer número 1# de la nueva década.
